|
[Washago] Washago resident Kathy Nicholson was the big winner of the Rotary Club of Washago & Area - Centennial Oscar Night when she successfully predicted 17 of 24 Oscar Award Winners. Her reward for choosing the most correct winners is 7 nights accommodation at an RCI resort of her choice.
Oscar Night was held at the Northland Restaurant on Highway 11 North where guests were dressed in everything from tuxedos and gowns to jeans and sweaters. Guests, who paid $25 each to attend the evening, submitted ballots listing their best guesses about who would win the various Oscar categories. The club also accepted ballots from people who could not attend the evening for $15 each.
About 30 attendees enjoyed wings, ribs, pizza and other delightful finger foods while they watched a large screen HD TV of the awards supplied by Future Shop in Orillia. A silent auction of donated items also took place during the evening.
The event was a great success according to club president Mary Rogers who said "We thank all those who supported our event. Everyone had a good time and we raised needed funds to continue improving our community." The club earned an estimated $1000 from the event. The Rotary Club of Washago & Area Centennial supports a number of local and international community service projects including youth related and humanitarian programs.
