For three days this summer the first annual “Art on the Severn” Juried Art Show and Sale will be held in Washago, Ontario July 18 - 20, 2008. This event will showcase a wide variety of art forms. The art festival’s theme, “Community”, weaves seamlessly with celebrations commemorating the 175th anniversary of the construction of the Trent Severn Waterway scheduled for Saturday, July 19th at the Washago Centennial Park on the north shore of Lake Couchiching.
Festival founder and organizer, Louise Bongers says “What a weekend we have in store for Washago. Being a community on the Trent Severn Waterway, we wish to celebrate the construction of the first lock in Bobcaygeon.”
Bongers’ Art on the Severn Committee has developed an event that has motivated many community groups to get involved, creating an old fashioned small town community spirit. The Washago Community Centre will host the Art Show & Sale which has attracted artists from all parts of the province. All artwork will be available for purchase by the general public on Friday, July 18th Saturday, July 19th and Sunday, July 20th. Admission to the weekend event is $5 and free to children under 12.
Proceeds from Art on the Severn Juried Art Show and Sale will be donated to the Washago Community Centre.
